Paragliding from Rio's Pedra Bonita suspended

27apr2010
The Brazilian Association of Free Flight (ABVL) has temporarily suspended commercial flights with hang-gliders (asa-delta) and paragliders (parapente) from the launch site at Pedra Bonita, in São Conrado from March 2010.

The National Agency of Civil Aviation (ANAC) wants to avoid amateurs from providing flight services and thus prevent accidents such as the one which occurred in 2003.

From now on only "training" flights will be allowed to operate at the Pedra Bonita.

However, it is thought this is a temporary measure, and hang-gliding and paragliding flights in tandem with an instructor may resume in the future.
